An unmissable experience for students who are thirsty for deep practice, cultural immersion, sensational food, sandy feet and salty hair.

This retreat has been in the making ever since Zoe's adventured over to Sri Lanka to teach yoga in 2019. She had the pleasure of working amongst the coconut trees with like minded travellers, all whilst falling in love with the culture, the people, the incredible food and the warm Indian Ocean. She knew this was an experience that had to be shared.

Somewhere between surfs and practices, Zoe met Jane, one of the creators behind Lanka Yoga. Nestled into the quiet trees by Koggala Lake, is a custom built retreat venue like no other. Thus, this idea was born.

Your Destination

Nothing short of paradise. Lanka Yoga is on Koggala Lake in the little-known village of Duwamalalagama. This location puts us at the first of the famous surf beaches on the South Coast of Sri Lanka. Just 5 minutes from the pristine white sandy beaches in Habaraduwa town and 10 minutes to the famous surf at Kabalana and Dewata.

The venue itself is one of a kind. Located on the water’s edge, we offer a calm alternative to the sometimes-hectic nature of the beachside locations. The generously spaced venue has open plan living, nooks and crannies, an elevated yoga shala, a spectacular pool, lush gardens including a substantial vegetable garden, an abundance of fruit trees and more.

Lanka Yoga has an uninterrupted view of the beautiful Koggala lake from each room. You’ll see nothing but green and blue, with the occasional crocodile, swarm of eagles, and other wildlife that will make it feel like you’re living in the middle of a national park.

Your Host

This retreat is led by Zoe Klein (E-RYT 500), salt and sun lover. Zoe has been teaching yoga since 2015, traveling globally to both learn and share the practice of yoga. Having taught over 2000 hours of public classes she is well-practiced in facilitating safe and customised practices for any level of experience.

Zoe’s teaching style is fluid, creative and always with a philosophical undertone. Her point of difference is her infectious genuinity, her deep connection to the practice and her ability to translate this into really enjoyable yoga experiences. Expect carefully curated music, authentic stories, laughter and most importantly her undivided presence.

The Yoga

Whilst this retreat is about adventure, culture and relaxation, it will be held together by yoga. We will honour the complete practice by including asana, meditation, pranayama, mantra and workshop style classes. You will have two classes per day (of course, these are optional).

Grow & Flow: All of our morning classes will be grow & flow. These classes will be fluid, dynamic and breath based, with a sprinkle of workshop style education. You will leave these practices feeling confident, clear and ready to tackle the day.

Rest & Realign: All of our afternoon classes will be rest and realign. These classes will jump between restorative/yin type practices, yoga nidra, breath work and meditation.

The Food

The key to an amazing get away is great food and Sri Lanka food is nothing short of extraordinary. For breakfast, lunch and dinner you will enjoy a Michelin chef designed Sri Lankan fusion menu. All meals are vegan and utilise as much local and home grown ingredients as possible. Immerse your taste buds in the local cuisine with just the right amount of western familiarity. The kitchen is open plan in the villa's main living area, meaning our cooks are on display as they prepare each meal.

We can support your dietary requirements if you let us know in advance.

Sustainability

Lanka Yoga have planned their project around making a positive impact. With the climate emergency and the earth’s wilderness in

danger, we are doing our bit. It’s not all fluff either; we put our money where our mouths are and have invested in both high and low tech sustainable solutions.

Lanka Yoga make a considerable effort to have zero negative impact on the environment. To do this, we have many ongoing solutions including; the overall design and build, growing their own food, water management and treatment, power usage and solar, land management, trash minimisation and management,  community projects and eco lanka.
